Privacy
Short version: your audio never leaves your phone, and we never store your IP address.
Microphone audio
All sound analysis runs inside your browser. Audio is never recorded, uploaded or stored. The microphone is released as soon as you press STOP or leave the page.
What we save when you press STOP
- Your measurement results: average, min, peak and final RPM, duration, frequency and a small RPM-over-time graph.
- Your settings: engine type, cylinder / blade count and RPM range.
- The optional nickname, "what are you measuring" text and notes you typed.
- The date and time, and your device type (mobile, tablet or desktop).
- Your approximate city, region and country, looked up from your IP address.
Your IP address
Your IP address is used only to look up an approximate city-level location through a third-party geolocation service (ipwho.is, with ip-api.com as a fallback). We store a one-way salted hash of it to prevent spam — the raw IP is not saved.
Public display
Saved sessions appear on the public community board and leaderboards with the city / country, results and any nickname you entered. Don't put personal information in the nickname or description fields.
Accounts & email
Accounts are optional. If you create one we store your email address, an optional display name and your email preferences. We email you sign-in keys, the session results you ask for, and — only if you opt in — occasional updates and notices. Every update email has a one-click unsubscribe link. Emails are delivered by Mailgun. You can delete your account at any time from the account page; your sessions then stay on the public board anonymously.
Visitor cookie
We set one anonymous cookie (rpm_vid) containing a random id so you can see your own session history on My sessions and edit your notes — no account, name or email involved. It is refreshed on each visit so it doesn't expire while you keep using the site. Clearing your cookies starts a new, empty history unless you've created an account. If you sign in, a second cookie (rpm_auth) keeps you signed in.
Local storage
Your meter settings (engine type, cylinders, nickname) are remembered in your browser's local storage so you don't have to re-enter them. Clearing site data removes them.
